Flag Essay Contest

Annually the New York State Organization, NSDAR, sponsors a flag essay contest for children in fifth or sixth grades in public, private, parochial or home school.

Awards are given at the state level for first through third place, as well as honorable mention.

Please contact your local DAR chapter to learn more and for the contest deadline.

Constitution Week

Constitution Week is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23. This celebration was started by the DAR; the organization petitioned Congress in 1955 to set aside the dates for an annual observance and the resolution was subsequently adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into law in 1956.

Today, Constitution Week is an opportunity to educate the public about the U.S. Constitution, remind citizens of their responsibilities to protect and defend the Constitution, and encourage scholarship around the events that led to the drafting and adoption of the Constitution in 1787.

Contact your local DAR chapter to learn about what efforts are underway to observe Consititution Week in your area.

DAR Service for Veterans

DAR members are active volunteers in their communities, including serving as Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) representatives at their local Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers, participating in Wreaths Across America, and attending Honor Flight send-offs and welcome homes.

DAR Project Patriot

The DAR Project Patriot was designed to help show support for America’s active-duty service members and their families.

NSDAR chapters support all branches of the military at home and abroad. Thousands of personal care items, medical supplies, cards, manufactured coupons, snacks, and gifts have been sent by chapters to those serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, and National Guard.

Support for the active-duty military can come in a variety of different forms including wearing red on Fridays, sending handwritten cards, making baby blankets for military parents-to-be stationed overseas, acknowledging the children of parents who are actively serving during April for “Purple Up” month, welcoming troops home from their deployments, or just saying “thank you for your service.” A simple gesture, no matter how small, can go a long way!

Thank you in advance for supporting the men and women who are currently serving our country!
