Education

From its founding, the DAR has focused on education inspired by the words of George Washington. Efforts include literacy promotion, civics education, and scholarships.

New York State Organization, NSDAR, Scholarships

New York State Organization, NDSAR, is proud to offer several scholarships for young persons pursuing secondary and advanced education.

​

Scholarships are for post-high school education, including two and four-year college, university, technical and vocational schools. There are scholarship awards for members of the New York Tribal Nations, for students pursuing the study of American history, study in New York State, as well as young women from New York State pursuing a four-year degree.

DAR Scholarships

The National Society has many scholarships open to students pursuing degrees at the collegiate and graduate level.

DAR Essay Contests

Students in grades five through high school are encouraged to participate in our annual essay contests. It is a great way to learn more about the history of our great nation. Contact your local chapter for information about the topic, rules, and deadlines for this year's contest.

Local Educational Programs

DAR members volunteer countless hours with schools and libraries in their local communities to support educational efforts. Some examples include literacy tutoring, read-aloud story-time, historical reenactment and more.
