New York State Scholarship Applications Open for Submission

New York State scholarship applications are now open! Spread the word to your local schools, community, family, and friends.

SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP

Join DAR Scholarship Chair Erin Shaw and American Indians Chair Nicole Richmond for a workshop at this year's state conference to learn more about the various scholarship opportunities available at the state and national levels. Check the conference program for more details.

STATE SCHOLARSHIPS

New York State has four scholarships available to help deserving students fund their continued education.

Damaris Smith DeSimone Scholarship

Up to $1,000 one-time award for high school seniors planning to major in United States History

Helen and Arnold Barben Scholarship

Up to $500 each year for four years for female students acquiring a higher education

New York State DAR Scholarship

Up to $500 each year for four years for high school seniors planning to attend a college or university in New York State

Peggy Jo Power Gifford Scholarship

$500 one-time award for students planning to major in United States History, Philanthropy, or Non-Profit Management

Applications can be found on the NYDAR members only website under the Member Resources – All Forms section. 

New York State Scholarship key dates: 

• January 15, 2024 – Student applications due to Chapter Scholarship Chairman

• February 15, 2024 – Applications and cover letters due from Chapter to State Chairman via email to erinshaw.dar@gmail.com

• May 15, 2024 – Recipient of each scholarship and sponsoring chapters will be notified via email

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

NSDAR offers more than 20 scholarships for graduating high school seniors, college, and graduate students in varied areas of study. Chapter sponsorship is not required. Learn more at dar.org/scholarships. 

NSDAR Scholarship key dates:

• November 1, 2023–January 31, 2024 at 11:59 pm (Hawaii Time) – Application portal open for submissions

• Second week of May 2024 – All applicants whether selected as the recipient of each scholarship or not selected will be notified by email
